Arsenal goes into the second leg of their Champions League encounter against Bayern Munich with slim chances to progress. Contrary to what Arsene Wenger believes, the Gunners are on the brink of elimination after they once again fell short of expectations in the first leg, where their mental fragility and tactical naivety were exposed by a better team.
Arsenal have already produced a remarkable result this time last season, when they nearly overturned a 1-3 deficit by claiming a famous 2-0 victory at the Allianz Arena. This is the only silver-lining for the Gunners going into tomorrow’s game, but it’s hardly unlikely that Bayern will treat them in the same arrogant and relaxed manner. If there is one man you want to motivate your team, that’s Pep Guardiola. The Spaniard will make sure any traces of complacency remain in the dressing room. Arsenal will have to produce the performance of their lives (that may still not be enough), or Bayern will have to self-destruct for the English team to progress.
Both sides come into the game in good spirits, after comfortable domestic wins. Bayern had a tricky away game against Wolfsburg, but once again came on top with a scintillating 6-1 win, after a stunning second half performance. Arsenal on the other hand defeated Everton in what many fans thought to be their most important game of the season. The FA Cup is the only real chance of silverware for the Gunners, and they stayed alive in the competition courtesy of a 4-1 win.
Pep Guardiola has almost the entire squad at his disposal, whit only Holger Badstuber being the long term absentee. Unfortunately, things are looking bleaker, for Wenger who will have to cope without Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Wojciech Szczęsny.
The bookies give Arsenal no chances whatsoever to qualify, and even the odds for an outright Bayern win are ridiculously small. There is value in other markets, particularly both teams to score, which is priced at 1.83 with Bet365, on which we are going to bet 8 units. The gunners have nothing to lose and they will give it a go, but I can’t see them keeping a clean sheet.
