Germany gives way this weekend to their match of the season as Bayern Munich get ready to host Borussia Dortmund. Every year this match has been defined by specific battles in and out of the field, and this year is no exception. The eventual win for either team will not change anything in the Bundesliga table, that’s why many bookies are just predicting a lot of goals to be scored.
While Bayern can’t lose the Bundesliga anymore, Dortmund can lose the second place to Schalke, a thing which they will try to avoid by scoring a quick goal in Munich. After the Champions League exit, Dortmund can boast with a strong mentality and being able to look as good as they do now even with all the injuries. Dortmund also won their last Bundesliga match against Wolfsburg after coming behind from one goal. Marco Reus works wonders with Robert Lewandowski in the midfield, even though it will be interesting to notice how the Pole acts around his soon to be new team.
Bayern Munich on the other hand lost against Augsburg after displaying, not even a second team, but a squad full of youngsters and Manuel Neuer, which prompted the entire Bundesliga to condemn Pep Guardiola’s tactics. Not that the Spaniard cared that much as he needed his players fit for the return leg against Manchester United which sent the German Champions into the Champions League semifinals. They also have their fair list of injuries as Thiago, Shaqiri and Tom Starke are all down with injuries.
Last year, at Westfallen Stadion, Bayern won with 3-0 with one of the goals coming from Mario Götze, who later refused to celebrate scoring against his former team. This time it will be Götze’s first der Klassiker in his new home, and it’s still unclear whether he will start, but he could be clinical even as a substitute.
