Eintracht Frankfurt vs. TSG Hoffenheim
Wednesday, January 26th 2013, 16:30 CET
The Bundesliga match from round 19 between Frankfurt and Hoffenheim ended in a 2-1 victory for Frankfurt, meaning that I won the bet I placed on Frankfurt’s victory.
The first goal of the match came in the 35th minute, when Martin Lanig scored the first point for Frankfurt. In the 65th minute, Kevin Volland reestablished the balance on the scoring table, and in the 67th minute Stefan Aigner scored the third goal of the match, which was also the decisive one.
Alexander Meier thought he had broken the deadlock early on, after a breathtaking goal scramble, but the linesman disallowed the goal as the ball had gone out for a corner. However, the hosts didn’t have to wait too long until the opener. Takashi Inui sent the ball into Martin Lanig’s path, who lifted it over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net, despite the best efforts of the defender on the line.
In the second half of the match, Andreas Beck accelerated down the right and drove in a cross met by Kevin Volland, who scored the first and only goal for his team. Though, the equilibrium on the scoring table has only lasted for 2 minutes. In the 67th minute, a corner from the right wing evaded everyone in the box and fell to Stefan Aigner, who managed the simplest of finishes. This result made Hoffenheim slip to the 17th position in the Bundesliga charts.
All in all, I think the match ended the way everyone expected and, at the same time, Hoffenheim managed to finish the confrontation without any reasons to feel ashamed.
