The athlete also participated in a youth tennis tournament in Beijing, the Chinese capital, and made her first public appearance after weeks. The photos of the tennis player’s presence at the event were released by the organization itself.

The video call with the IOC, served to confirm that everything is indeed fine with the athlete. It was attended by Committee President Thomas Bach, Athletes’ Commission President Emma Terho, and IOC member Li Lingwei, former vice president of the Chinese Tennis Association. This was the first direct contact with Shuai.

In an official statement, the body, located in Lausanne, Switzerland, said that Peng “thanked the IOC for its concern for her well-being.”

A few weeks ago, Peng Shuai revealed via social media that she was sexually abused by Zhang Gaoli, a former member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. Her post was deleted within minutes, and the player, who represented China in three Olympics in tennis between 2008 and 2016, disappeared.
