We finished the year 2019 with its ups and downs and it is time to look forward. But we should not forget the history to make future better. In the group stage, some teams had the hardest fixtures and some had the easiest. Until the finale on 30 May in Istanbul we will see more fixtures on the next stages, both easy and hard. If we start with one of the hardest ones, Group F was considered as Group of Death because there were 3 powerful teams: Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan. From these 3 only Barcelona and Dortmund advanced to the next stage. Well, Barcelona even finished as the group leader and at the round of 16, Barcelona will be playing against their Mediterranean neighbor Napoli.
Let’s continue with the groups that were hard to predict, Group G and H weren’t so different from the Group F. They finished the group with very close statistics. Even in Group G, Benfica and Zenit were tied up on the head to head points. But of course, they weren’t the ones who advanced, that was for who would transfer to the Europa League. But the real ones who got to advanced from Group G were, RB Leipzig and Lyon.
In between all those teams from all those groups, there is one team who they never had any defeat on the group stage – Bayern Munich from Group B. Their group might have been easier to handle compare to those we have mentioned before but they managed to went 6/6 on the victories. They were even in the same group with the last year’s runner up Tottenham. Now they will be facing on the next phase with last year’s Europa League champion Chelsea who advanced from one of the tough groups – Group H.
Lastly, I should mention the Group A winners PSG and Real Madrid. Until the last minutes Real Madrid was leading the table but PSG got the last-minute strike and finished as the leader. Their other opponents were terrible anyway so it was always a race between those two to see who would finish as first. Now PSG will visit Dortmund and Real Madrid will host Manchester City on the first leg. Here are the whole draw for the Round of 16:
| Borussia Dortmund | PSG |
| Real Madrid | Manchester City |
| Atalanta | Valencia |
| Atletico Madrid | Liverpool |
| Chelsea | Bayern Munich |
| Lyon | Juventus |
| Tottenham | RB Leipzig |
| Napoli | Barcelona |
There are really good matches to catch up on and I personally think that the match between Bayern Munich and Chelsea would be a lot fun to watch.
