Mercedes Benz Arena gives way to a match between the 6th and 16th placed Bundesliga teams. VfB Stuttgart host Schalke 04 in an attempt to continue with their new found confidence in Bundesliga, and the bookmakers back them to jump up from the red zone.
Stuttgart changed managers at the end of November and have since won against Freiburg with 4-1 which allowed them to swap the last place with Borussia Dortmund. Harnik was their man of the match with his brace for a Stuttgart side that forgot what it felt like winning ever since that 4-5 against Eintracht Frankfurt back in October. During yesterday’s training Huub Stevens was able to count on almost all his players, bar Abdellaoue and Ibisevic, who only completed a running session. Leitner and Kostic also took part in team training together with Daniel Didavi, back with the team after a seven week pause. Roberto Di Matteo will be without Höger, Matip, Draxler, Goretzka, Kolasinic and Farfan, this while Boateng, Santana and Sidney Sam are all under doubt.
Schalke were under heavy criticism, well- deserved one after the terrible performance against Chelsea that allowed them to lose 0-5 when playing at home. The team retaliated with a great performance against Mainz 05 where they won with 4-1 and are 13 points behind the Bundesliga leaders. Huntelaar knows Schalke can and will place higher, and Ralf Fährmann knows his team only need a moral boost to win: “I always say that we are FC Schalke 04 and we have a strong team. We have to look at ourselves in order to pick up our performances.”
In their last several head to head matches the teams alternated with the wins and if the trend continues Schalke 04 are highly due for another win. William Hill favors the hosts to win with 2.10 odds. A draw has 3.50 odds and we’re betting 7 units on Schalke 04 to win with 3.10 odds. Harnik has 2.40 odds to score, Werner 2.70, Maxim 2.87 and for Schalke: Huntelaar 2.40 odds, Choupo Moting 3.30 Max Meyer 3.30 and Sidney Sam 3.60 odds to score anytime.
