England vs. Japan

Prepare for another exciting game from FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011! The last game of group B will be played in Augsburg tomorrow evening between England and Japan. Looking at the group stats, Japan is already qualified for the quarter finals, and from this position they will face the runner-up of group A (France or Germany). They played some very nice football matches so far, having defeated New Zealand 2-1 and Mexico with a whopping 4-0!
Neither side has lost a game in this edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011, but England is 2 points behind Japan, and in order to be sure they’re not surpassed by a potential Mexican victory against New Zealand, they have to at least obtain a draw tomorrow. Sports betting odds are not on their side though: Bwin gives England 3.2 odds, Japan has 2.2 odds while a draw is rated at 3.2.
The two teams met 4 years ago, during the 2007 World Cup in China, in one of the most spectacular matches of the championship. Back then, Japan were leading 1-0, but England brought it to 2-1 in the last minutes of the game. Unfortunately for them, the Japanese girls equalized in added time! Though Japan did a very good game back then, and played some good ones so far in the qualifyings and the actual world cup, they’ve never beaten an European side. England has never defeated Japan. And they’ll both surely be looking to do that tomorrow.
One thing to fear for Hope Powell’s girls is the Japanese attack, so far the best in the Women’s world cup 2011, with 6 goals in 2 matches. Compare that to England’s struggling midfield: they had to come back from 0-1 against New Zealand in the last 23 minutes, with two great goals. They showed they can come back in 2007 against Japan, they showed it again now against New Zealand. But since their morale is not the best there is, will they stand a chance against Japan?
My sports betting tip for this match is to bet for a draw at 3.2 odds. This football tip is based upon Japan’s ability to score fast and ultimately to trigger the English women to try harder towards the end, and eventually come back into the game. As for the score prediction, I’ll go for a 1-1, though there could be a lot more goals. Anyway, sportsbetting-wise I choose to go with 2 units on a draw at 3.2 odds on Bwin.
Prediction: Draw for 2 units
